By Rob Swaine, Founder of The Cryotherapy Place
I have been a personal trainer for 8 years now – but I have played sport at both professional and semi-professional levels for 14 years.
My grandmother was, and my mother still is, a highly regarded physiotherapist, so growing up I was lucky enough to gain lots of knowledge and expertise from them both.
They taught me how important cold therapy is in helping a patient recover from their injuries (and prevent them from happening in the first place).
Having played football from a very young age, I’ve have endured plenty of injuries myself. One in particular sticks in my mind.
About 2 years ago I was in New York City and I damaged my knee. The hotel I was staying at mentioned that there was a cryotherapy shop close by and suggested I try it out. I was intrigued, as this therapy was new to me, but what did I have to lose? I’m a big believer in being open to new beneficial therapies, so I called up and booked an appointment straightaway.
A therapist conducted a localised treatment on my knee, which lasted around 10 minutes. He advised me that although it may take several visits to see the benefits from the session, plenty of customers had reported an immediate improvement.
I came out of the therapy session armed with a newfound appreciation for cold therapy. I was impressed. I realised I was no longer limping or indeed thinking about the pain anymore.
My immediate thought was, "I wonder if there are any cryotherapy clinics back in the UK?". Unfortunately, at that point, there were very few places in this country providing this treatment. Cryotherapy was incredibly popular in the US but was yet to make an impact on the other side of the pond.
I decided to spend some time researching the treatment further to really understand how it worked and why it was held in such high regard by professional athletes. I soon discovered that cryotherapy is something of a technological break-through. It’s the real deal. It has taken the process of cold therapy and icing injuries to the next level in a way that provides impressive results in relatively short spaces of time.
I was astounded by the success of my own treatment, and I was amazed by everything I was uncovering. I started to really believe in the benefits of cryotherapy, so before long I decided to set up my own specialist clinic in Essex.
Fast forward 10 months and I had set up a shop with two partners, offering both localised cryotherapy and whole-body cryotherapy to our clients.
Both treatments became incredibly popular. Feedback was good. We were helping hundreds of people relieve pain, sleep better, prepare for sporting events and recover from surgery quicker.
It felt amazing to help so many people reap the benefits of cryotherapy that I had discovered back in New York City. But I wanted to ensure that I was offering the best and most effective treatments to as many clients as possible. After much consideration, I decided to reinvest in my own business and go it alone, setting up The Cryotherapy Place in Loughton, Essex.
I spent even more time looking into the best cryotherapy equipment, and after much research, I came across CryoAction. This company is endorsed by a long list of high-profile clients, including Premiership football clubs, international rugby clubs, TEAM GB and many more elite sportsmen and women. The reviews from CryoAction’s clients were amazing, the success of their machinery and techniques has been proven, and their company vision really resonated with me – so partnering with CryoAction felt like the right thing to do.
